Orders, 1748-1759.

Copy, probably made later in the eighteenth century, of Wolfe's orders as Major and Lieutenant Colonel in the 20th Regiment of Foot, February 12, 1748 - December 15, 1755, and as commander of the troops in Québec, May 4, 1759 - September 12, 1759. Topics covered include drunkenness, malingering, hygiene in camp, and penalties for soldiers and women in camp with sexually transmitted diseases. Bound in the same volume are a printed copy of An act to amend and render more effectual in His Majesty's dominions in America an Act, passed in the present session of Parliament, intituled, an act for punishing mutiny and desertion. London: Charles Eyre and William Strahan, 1775 (59 p.; signatures, A-D8), and a manuscript entitled Exercise for the Foot, 1757, probably a copy of the British Army's manual of that title and date. Laid into the volume are two portraits of Wolfe: one is an engraving, "published by Harrison & Co., Feb 2 1795," printed on the same leaf as a one-page biography of Wolfe; the other appears to be a lithograph made after an aquatint, probably torn from a nineteenth-century book.
