Proceedings of a court of inquiry held at Morristown, N.J., September 21, 1779 - October 28, 1779, by order of Major General Lord Stirling [i.e. William Alexander]. The court investigated allegations of corruption and mismanagement by Joseph Lewis, James Abeel, and James Gamble in the quartermaster's and commissary's departments. Contains a transcript of the proceedings, a document outlining Lewis's defense, letters from Lewis and Gamble, and an affidavit dated November 1, 1779 supporting Lewis's case against Gamble.

Joseph Lewis, a prominent Morristown, New Jersey lawyer, was born on December 23, 1748, to Edward and Sarah Morris Lewis in Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
