Minisink Patent : land surveys, 1816, 1828.

Exemplifications created in 1816 and 1828 of a field book of the Minisink Patent in New York State and New Jersey, prepared in 1762 by commissioners John Thomas, Stephen Crane, and Major William Thompson who were appointed to survey and divide such parts of the patent as remained to be divided. Included are transcripts of the commission's meeting minutes, ballot sheets, and surveys of individual lots located in Orange and Sullivan County. The exemplification of 1816 is certified by Ulster County clerk Christopher Tappen; the 1828 volume is witnessed by Sullivan County clerk James Lockwood.

Crane, Stephen, 1871-1900

Stephen Crane was a novelist, poet, and journalst. He was born November 1, 1871, at 14 Mulberry Place, Newark, New Jersey. Crane is best known for his novel The Red Badge of Courage (1895) that depicted the experiences of a soldier in the Civil War. During the Spanish-American War (1898), Crame served as a correspondent. In 1897, he moved to England and met Joseph Conrad and Henry James. Crane died of tuberclosis in 1900. From the description of Newark Stephen Crane collection, 1897-...
