Notebook, 1861-1889, containing numbered chronological entries by painter Oliver Ingraham Lay recording the execution and sale of paintings, drawings, and studies. Entries identify the work by subject and record its dimensions, price, exhibition history, and final disposition, including the names of buyers or recipients, or, in some instances, a note stating that it had been destroyed. Many entries additionally include notes describing the works subject, composition, and design. Many of the portraits listed are of members of the Lay family, and Lay has noted the deaths of family members among his entries.
