Day book, 1778-1781.

Daybook, 1778-1781, of the law practice of John Lansing in partnership with Leonard Gansevoort, Albany, New York. Entries record their cases, disposition, and payments made by clients for legal services. Numerous case records include the names of the plaintiffs and defendents and costs incurred, with occasional case summaries describing the nature of the suit. The majority of cases involve disputes over land use, livestock, rents, and agricultural produce.

Leendert "Leonard" Gansevoort (July 14, 1751 – August 26, 1810) was an American political leader from New York who served as a delegate to the Continental Congress in 1788. Born in Albany in the Province of New York, Gansevoort studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1771. After the outbreak of the Revolutionary War, he became a member of the Albany Committee of Correspondence serving as treasurer until November 1775. Lansing was serving as Chancellor of New York at this time. He had served as a delegate to the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia in 1787, but withdrew in opposition.
