Clippings, correspondence, and photographs assembled by Helen Burr Smith and pertaining to research and preparation for her article "Nicholas Biddle Kittell (1822-1894) : a forgotten New York State artist." Included are black and white photos of Kittell's works, a photograph of his gravestone, correspondence with owners of paintings by Kittell, and news clippings concerning the lives of descendents of subjects painted by Kittell. Also included is the author's personal copy of "The New-York Historical Society quarterly," volume XLIV number 4, Oct. 1960; in which Ms. Smith's published article appeared. Correspondents include Percival P. Baxter and Ulysses S. Grant III.
