Diary and autograph album, 1842, 1862 Oct. 15-1863 Aug. 18.

Travel diaries, 1862 Oct. 15-1863 Aug. 18, and college autograph album, 1847, of Congregationalist clergyman and natural historian Henry Griswold Jesup. Diaries record Jesup's extended visit to Minneapolis, Minnesota and include lengthy entries describing his accomodations and travels by train and ship through the Great Lakes region, as well as his observations on the landscape, topography, fauna, and flora of the regions visited, and his opinions of the religious and moral character of the various communities and people encountered. Jesup additionally recounts his activities during his trip West, which included preaching sermons in local churches, attending lectures and religious services, and visiting friends in the Minneapolis area. Two volumes, 240 pages. Autograph album contains autographs of his professors and classmates at Yale, annotated, in many cases, with death dates and pasted in obituary notices. Volume additionally includes Jesup's own obituaru notice, numerous engraved portraits of Jesup's professors, and several views of Yale campus and environs.

Jesup (Yale University, B.A. 1847; M.S. 1850) taught botany at Darthmouth College, 1877-1899. He studied the local flora of Amherst, Mass. and Hanover, N.H. and published the Catalogue of the flowering plants and higher cryptogams found within thirty miles of Hanvoer, N.H. (1891).
