Daybook, 1724-1748, and general account book, 1724-1768, of merchant Peter Jay of New York City. Entries record his trading activities, primarily in fabric and drygoods, but also in gold, silver, iron, steel, knives, furs, produce, etc., with customers in England, New York State, New Jersey, the West Indies, etc. Included are extensive accounts with John Marston of Jamaica, West Indies; David & John Peloquin of Bristol, England; Nathaniel Marston, David Abdeel, Cornelius Clopper, William Hammersley, and Elizabeth Schuyler, all of New York City; Samuel and William Baker of London; John Crook, Martin Hoffman of Esopus, New York; and John Ellis & Son of Curacao. Of additional note is a 1762 entry recording the loan of money to John Jay and his brother James to pay for housing and college tuition.
