George E. Roberts papers, 1885-1967.

This collection consists of biographical information (letters, newspaper clippings, autobiographcial writings), correspondence to and from Roberts, addresses and writings by George E. Roberts and other banking experts, and copies of his numerous published works. Correspondence with Harvey Ingham, Sir George Paish, C.T. Revere, W.R. Boyd and W.J. Peterson is of particular note. Taxes, the gold supply, business cycles, international trade balance, price controls, farm price supports, railroad regulation, labor relations, foreign debts, post World War II economic crisis and recovery and agriculture policy are among the topics covered in the addresses and writings. These writings make up the bulk of the collection.

George Evans Roberts was born in Colesburg, Iowa (Delaware County). During his boyhood his family lived in Dubuque County, Manchester and Fort Dodge, Iowa. After graduating from high school in Fort Dodge Roberts entered the office of the Fort Dodge Times to learn the printer's trade. He later transferred to the Fort Dodge Messenger, becoming its editor in 1878. He was active in Webster County Republican politics during his tenure in Fort Dodge.
