Letters to S.W. ("Weir") Mitchell, 1847, 184?.

November 7, 184?, letter from St. George Tucker at the University of Virginia to "Dear Weir" (Silas Weir Mitchell). The letter mentions that [Mitchell's] affectionate letter was received. Tucker's letter includes reminiscences of a childhood friendship at Woodbury. There is mention of family or friends (Mr. Harrison's children, Dabney, and Brother Dave). In different handwriting are marginalia notes in pencil: "married my far away cousin Miss Gilmer ... a reminder of boy days at Woodbury, the home of Judge St. George Tucker." January 31, 1847, letter from Thomas T. Byrd at Wheatland to Mr. S.W. Mitchell. The letter mentions that [Mitchell's] agreeable letter came duly to hand. Byrd's letter describes festivities of the recent Christmas season and winter in Virginia with two snowfalls and his adventures while "slaying" [i.e. sleighing]. There is mention of mutual acquaintances (Gus, Ben, John Wister, and Philip Wharton). In different handwriting are marginalia notes in pencil: "my oldest boy friend Tom Byrd."
