Early American watermarks: collection, 1695-1937.

A collection of early American watermarks, 1695-1937, made by Robert R. Dearden and accompanied by a card file of drawings and tracings of watermarks. Most are eighteenth-century, and many are from paper mills in Pennsylvania. The collection includes a file of Dutch watermarks, some in seventeenth-century American documents, and a file of watermarks of unknown origin. As well as papers with original marks, it includes James F. Magee's photostat reproductions of watermarks, ms. notes about paper mills and paper-makers, and some twentieth-century newspaper clippings and ephemera, including two Christmas cards reproducing eighteenth-century watermarks in modern paper.
