Letterbook and mileage book, 1884-1896.

Letterbook contains letters written 1885 by various engineers to R. J. Sloan, chief engineer of the Manhattan Railway Company, in answer to his request for a meeting to hear their views concerning the strength and condition of the elevated railway structures in New York City. Letters mounted in a note book. The mileage book, kept at the chief engineer's office by H.J. Latimer, contains reports on track mileage built, 1884-1896, as well as notes on the heights of station platforms, and a blueprint of the lines near South Ferry. A few loose papers dated 1901 and 1905 are laid in.
