Diaries, 1752-1758, 1763-1765.

Diaries kept by Greenwood, one while he lived in Suriname (Dutch Guiana) from 1752-1758 and the other while on a trip to Paris from Amsterdam, 1763-1765. Greenwood used the volume labeled "No. 2" while staying in the Dutch Colony of Suriname (150 p.). He writes about the country, events, local gossip, and anecdotes, and includes sketches, a list of portraits painted, and a catalog of prints. A section on fireworks includes recipes and diagrams of their construction; some of this material is in French. Later pages contain a memoir of Greenwood, genealogical information, and summaries of some of his personal papers written by his son John in 1797. An index to the diary and other annotations were added by Isaac J. Greenwood in 1888. The second diary, labeled "No. 4", was kept on a trip from Amsterdam to Paris and back via London in the company of Peter Fouquet (60 p.). In addition to travel and activities, he also includes a few sketches and a section of notes on the purchase and sale of paintings.
