Log book of the proceedings on board the C.S. Steamer "Florida", 1863 Jan. 16-1864 May 19 / kept by J. Spidel, Eng[inee]r in charge up to 23d of July "/63; successor in charge, C.W. Quinn.

Log kept by John Spidel, Jan.-July 1863, and C.W. Quinn afterward until Sept. 24, 1863 while on cruise out of the port of Mobile, Alabama on the Confederate steamer "Florida". Entries relate mostly to engineering concerns such as speed, banking furnaces, fire, condition of equipment, fuel consumption, etc. Also reported are ship sightings and chase and capture of enemy vessels. Affixed to the first page is an unsigned letter to Miss D[?]. The volume consists of pre-printed forms for the user to fill in as well as a fill-in title page.
