Diaries, 1834-1862 (bulk 1834-1837).

Diaries kept by Evangeles primarily while attending college in New York City (1834-1837, occasional to 1862). Entries relate mostly to his personal acquaintances, social and religious activities, and his efforts to interest Americans in Greek culture and the Greek cause for independence. Includes an account of his voyage to and return from Liverpool, England, aboard the ship "Southern" and his stay there in the summer of 1836. Among his friends mentioned prominently in the diaries are Julia Ward (Howe), Sarah Douglass, Rev. J.M. Mathews, Samuel Ward, and P. Vandervoort. The diaries also contain poetry, loose correspondence, and the occasional writing in Greek.
