Correspondence, bills, receipts, accounts, deeds, legal papers, recipes, and a diary related to the Stanton and Elliott families of Connecticut. Included are correspondence, deeds, and legal papers chiefly related to land owned by Jared and other members of the Elliott family, as well as an estate inventory of Augustus Elliott, at Saybrook, Killingworth, and other locations in Connecticut (bulk 1730-1830); letters received by Elizabeth M. Stanton, a schoolteacher at various schools (including institutions in Norwich, Conn.; Gallipolis, Ohio; Newburgh, New York; and Washington, D.C.; 1847-1860) and a diary she kept at intervals from 1851-1855, often reflecting on her spiritual development and recording church services she attended; letters to Nancy Stanton of Clinton, Conn., many from religious and philanthropic organizations (1853-1871); and bills, receipts, recipes, and accounts of the Stanton family (ca. 1850-1870).

Stanton, Elizabeth Cady, 1815-1902

Elizabeth Cady Stanton was born in Johnstown, New York in 1815. She organized the first Women's Rights Convention at Senecca Falls, New York, in 1848 and for more than fifty years thereafter was a crusader for women's rights, especially women's suffrage. She died in New York City in 1902....
