Ms. texts of two speeches given by Cowdin, one before the National Board of Trade, meeting in Philadelphia (June 1875) favoring a return to specie payments (26 p.); the second before a Unitarian church festival, ([1874]), on the progressiveness of the Unitarian Church (20 p.). The letter is to Mrs. Elliot C. Cowdin, from George Wilson on behalf of the Chamber of Commerce of the State of New York, on the death of her husband, dated June 10, 1880.

Cowdin, Elliot C. (Elliot Christopher), 1819-1880

Born in Jamaica Vermont. Entered business in Boston during the 1840's, where he mastered the intricacies of silk trade. In the 1850's, he established his own firm in New York York City with a branch in Paris, and lived alternately in one place or the other. He married Sarah Kate Waldron, circa 1853.
