Diary of John Anderson, Jr., brother of Dr. Alexander Anderson, from Jan. 1, 1794 to Sept. 2, 1798, recording his daily activities as a student and young lawyer in New York City. He writes briefly of attendance at lectures, church services (Episcopal), court, visits to friends and relations, the books he is reading, his pastimes such as playing the violin, often in company with others, and painting on silk, his reflections on study, religion, etc. Among his friends were: Washington Irving and other members of the Irving family, Robert Davis, T. Herttell, A. Tiebout, Dr. Young, the Van Vlecks, the Baileys, et al. In addition he was a member of The Athenian Society, the Law Society, and the Horanian Society.
