Alfred L. Baury family papers, 1791-1915.

The Alfred L. Baury family papers, 1791-1915, consist of correspondence, diaries, and financial material including bills, receipts, accounts, government pensions, and estate papers. Family members include Alfred L. Baury's wife Mary Catherine Henshaw Baury; parents Louis Baury de Bellerive and Mary Clark Baury; sister Mary Brown Baury; brother Frederick Francis Baury; son Frederick F. Baury; and adopted son Alfred Louis Baury, among other family members, acquaintances, and friends. Included are letters from Frederick Francis Baury to his mother, Mary Clark Baury, 1813-1814, while serving as a Lt. aboard the USS sloop of war Wasp, which later disappeared, and letters from Frederick F. Baury to his father Alfred L. Baury, 1864-1865, while serving as a Lt. in the United States Navy during the Civil War. Also included are diaries kept by St. Mary's Church rector Alfred L. Baury, 1857 and 1862-1863. Papers kept by Alfred L. Baury of Boston, Mass., 1836-65, as president of the Massachusetts Society of the Cincinnati, an organization of Revolutionary War officers and descendents. Papers include letters received by Baury, 1836-64 from the national and Massachusetts Society; letters and resolutions about Baury's presidency of the Massachusetts Society of Cincinnati and his death in 1865; printed reports, 1858-63; and clippings of meeting notices. Also includes a manuscript copy of the will and inventory of property of George Hyde, 1835, of which Baury was the executor.
