Typescript copy of an excerpt from an 1895 magazine article for Blackwood [Blackwood's] by the "Looker-On" discussing art exhibitions in London and in particular portraits in the New Gallery. The author praises as remarkably fine and describes in detail a portrait by Prince Troubetzkoi [sic] of English statesman W.E. Gladstone. Included is a U.S. Department of Agriculture business envelope postmarked February 1934 with the inscription "Prince Pierre Troubetzkoy, Cobham, Va."

William Ewart Gladstone, prime minister and author, was born in Liverpool, on Dec. 29, 1809; the fifth child and youngest son of Sir John Gladstone and Anne Mackenzie Gladstone. He was educated at Eton and Christ Church, Oxford, in preparation for a future in the British political world.
