Photographs collected and taken by Henry Cabot Lodge, Jr., author, reporter, United States senator, and ambassador, and his wife, Emily Sears Lodge. Most of the photographs, both loose and in volumes, depict Lodge's activities during his terms as Massachusetts state and U.S. senator (1932-1952); his military service and training during the 1940s, including his involvement in World War II and photographs of the Dachau, Germany concerntration camp after its liberation in 1945; his own senate and vice-presidential campaigns (1932-1952 and 1960), as well as his work for the Dwight D. Eisenhower's presidential campaign (1952); his services as United States ambassador to the United Nations (1953-1960), Vietnam (1963-1967) during the Vietnam War, and Germany (1968-1969); and his various public appearances, award ceremonies, and speaking engagements unrelated to government business. There are also a number of loose portraits of Lodge as both a child and an adult, as well as of various Lodge family members, friends, and political colleagues. In addition, there are photographs of Lodge's personal travels from 1920-1961 and of views of places of importance to him. Photographers include Leo Rosenthal of New York, N.Y., photographers for various news organizations and magazines, the United Nations, the U.S. Army Signal Corps, and many others. Many of the photographers are unidentified. Includes black-and-white and color photographs, as well as some photonegatives.
