Irby, re presidential race against incumbent Benjamin Harrison, and selection of S.C. delegation to Democratic convention; papers re Evans' 1894 campaign for governor, including tactical advice re S.C.'s dispensary law, farmers' movement, S.C. Democratic convention, anticipated campaign struggle in the upcountry, and organization of Immigration Society of Spartanburg; correspondents include B.R. Tillman, Eugene B. Gary, W.O. Tatum, A.L. Walsh, J.L.M. Irby, R.J. Wade, A. Howard Patterson, S.W. Scruggs, W. Gibbes Whaley, U.X. Gunter, Jr., Ollin C. Salley, George T. Pringle, W.H. Ingram, and T.B. Thackston. Later correspondence includes letter, 24 Jan. 1914, from Tillman, re Gov. Coleman Blease's investigation of State [Mental] Hospital, expressing hope that Blease would be impeached, and discussing legislation to provide for direct election of U.S. Senators by primary; and letters, 1918, between Tillman and Evans re Tillman's decision to run for re-election to Senate and opposition of Asbury F. Coward.
