The Sans Pareil Theatre of London opened in 1806 and was renamed the Adelphi Theatre in 1819. Elliston was an English actor and theatrical manager, as well as lessee of the Surrey Theatre, London, beginning in 1809. He later served as manager of the Drury Lane Theatre.
