Bean Museum including files relating to the dedication, accounting records, annual progress reports, organizational charts, and correspondence. There are also 10 volumes of research diaries of Robert G. Bee in his studies of ornithology mostly in the state of Utah from the years 1924-1962.

Plans for the David O. McKay building began in 1952 after an evaluation by the Brigham Young University College of Education concluded that the existing building for the College of Education were no longer meeting the growing needs of the program. Plans were officially announced in February of 1954 with the completion deadline being set for December of the same year. Exhibits and collections of biological specimens are housed in the M.L. Bean Life Science Museum. The exhibits include habitat studies of local as well as exotic plant and animal species and a large and valuable collection of trophies from North America, Africa, and Asia.
