Letters to Harm Jan Huidekoper, Holland Land Company agent, Meadville, Pa., 1825-1848, regarding land sales, payments by settlers, and other Holland Land Company matters, including the attacks on the Batavia office by a mob, 1838. Most letters also feature news of contemporary events, such as the Erie Canal opening celebration in Lockport, Oct. 1825; the schooner Michigan scheduled to be sent over Niagara Falls, Aug. 1827; the outbreak of cholera in 1832, the arrest of Benjamin Rathbun for forgery and the effects of the scandal on Blossom and others, 1830-1838; the Upper Canada Rebellion, 1837; and the hiring of an organist at the Unitarian Church, 1838. Also, three letters written after the deaths of Blossom and H.J. Huidekoper by N.K. Hall, guardian of Blossom's daughter Anna, to Edgar Huidekoper, Meadville, seeking advice on a suitable school for Anna.

Buffalo, N.Y. businessman and entrepreneur. Began his career as proprietor of Buffalo's Eagle Tavern in 1821. Accused, with his brother Lyman and two nephews, of forging endorsements, tried twice, convicted in 1838, and sentenced to serve five years in the state prison. He returned to Buffalo, but later moved to New York City, where he kept the Broadway Hotel, at the corner of Broadway and Forty-Second Street. He died in Fort Washington, N.Y. on 19 July 1873.
