On Sept. 5, 1901 he and his wife were attending the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo, New York when he was shot by as assassin waiting in line to shake his hand. Ebenezer J. Hill was born in Redding, Connecticut on August 4, 1845. He attended Yale College (Class of 1865) and served in the U.S. Army in a civilian capacity in 1863.
