Andrew Smythe came to Portsmouth, NH, and was indentured to Gov. Mark Wentworth in exchange for his passage. Andrew married Mary Brewster of Portsmouth (1756), a descendant of Elder Brewster. About 1755 Gov. Wentworth granted town of Holderness to Andrew Smythe, Samuel Shepard and others. Andrew and Mary's son Joshua married Samuel Shepard's daughter Polly. Author is son of Joshua and Polly.
