This collection contains sixteen architectural drawings by William Gibbons Preston for the third design for the Union Society building named "The Whitfield" from around 1888. This building was completed in 1889 and was located on 121-125 Whitaker Street in Savannah, Georgia. The Union Society building was demolished in the early 1980s.

The Union Society was founded in 1750 by Peter Tondee, Richard Milledge, and Benjamin Shefthall. The primary focus of the organization was simply to help the needy.
