Correspondence from S.C. officers in the Columbia branch and printed promotional materials from the national organization urging continued action by members in spite of successful passage of the 18th amendment into law on 17 Jan. 1920; letterhead stationery identifies J.K. Breedin, as Superintendent, and other officers around the state. Several letters sent from Columbia Headquarters by J. McSwain Woods, State Campaign Director, to Mendel L. Smith, Camden, S.C., soliciting donations, speaking engagements, and support. Clipping, ca. Dec. 1919, reporting that the League enjoyed the support of former Gov. Richard I. Manning, who had agreed to present several public talks to support the fund drive, attached to letter, 19 Dec. 1919, from J.K. Breedin. Some printed materials from the national organization express the nativist slant of the organization, such as "Aims of ... campaign, Jan. 16-23, 1920," with stated goals including, "Americanize the Foreigner" and "A dry world by 1930," which sought to "clean up Cuba and the Bahamas" and Mexico; similar ideas are expressed in a letter, 26 Nov. 1919, from J.M. Woods, an officer in the S.C. organization, to Mendel L. Smith expressing concern for "solving the great problem of the wet Cities, wet States and the foreigners now living in America."
