This collection consists primarily of biographical and genealogical information, although the George S. Barnsley scrapbook also contains financial information, inspirational writings, and news clippings concerning Confederate colonists in Brazil. The folders are arranged chronologically, followed by undated materials arranged alphabetically by folder title. The collection also contains images of the Barnsley family, including a miniature of Godfrey and Julia Barnsley, carte-de-visites, tintypes, and photographs of their children, in-laws, and grandchildren. Many of these images were collected by George S. Barnsley and the photo album was compiled by him. The photograph album contains 24 photographs, many of them from Brazil. The last photograph in the album is the only unidentified image. Most of the photographs are identified on the page below the image. Two photographs are missing from the album: a group photo of Walter Cassels, Dr. George S. Barnsley, Murray B. Gilmour, and Herbert Cassels; and a photograph of William Scarborough, Sr. The box containing visual materials is noted as "VM" in the collection inventory.
