Letters, 1836 March 11 and 1838 June 13, George Conrad, Harrisonburg, Va., to Jacob Conrad, Richmond, Va., and Jenetta Conrad, Buckingham County, Va., sending family news, and noting Jacob's desire not to be a candidate for the [Virginia legislature?] He briefly mentions that a Frank Kirtley has "run off with 3 of his Fathers negroes, among them Cinda." Letter, 1846 January 1, Clement D. Newman, Norfolk, Va., to Alexander Newman, Brooklyn, N.Y., describes life in the city, including Christmas celebration, outfitting vessels for war, and a slave sale, and requests clothes and spending money for books. Marriage contract, 1850 September 24, [Wythe County, Va.?] between William Ewing, and Lucinda MacGavock and Randal MacGavock concerns land and slaves owned by the future bride Margaret L. MacGavock. Letter, 1858 June 26, W. Washington, Fredericksburg, to F.G. Morrison, discuss the alleged violation of a contract hiring slaves who were "placed upon the gravel train," causing "Tom" to run off.
