Over 20,000 items. Includes correspondence of Greene V. Black with his son, Carl, re: his work at Northwestern University Dental School and family matters. Also with other family members including Arthur Black. Vast amount of correspondence related to the formation of the state medical societies and medical legislation, including efforts to eliminate "quacks". Comprehensive reports on medical legislation passed, 1900-1904, while Black was chairman of the Legislative Council of the Ill. Med. Soc. Includes letters form leading physicians of the time and from Governors Yates, Deneen and Dunn and other political names. Letters from Edward Capps re: Illinois College, the Red Cross Commission and the Greek political situation in the 1920's. Correspondence re: Jacksonville centennial in 1925 and the work on improving the water supply in the city. Correspondence re: construction of new buildings at Illinois College in the 1920's and selecting a replacement for President Charles Rammelkamp in 1932-33. Later correspondence pertains to histories of Jacksonville, Morgan County, Illinois College and its founders and the Black family genealogy.
