June and Farrar Burn met in Washington, D.C., were married in 1919, and moved to the Puget Sound area where they lived in Bellingham, Washington, on Waldron Island, and in Seattle. The couple was known for their unconventional and simple lifestyle. June was a writer and a teacher, working a short time at the University of Washington.
