Lee Howard Watson papers, 1944-2004.

Consisting of three World War II letters, 17 July, 8 and 17 Aug. 1944, written to Miss Lee Howard of Greenville, S.C., from Waycross, Ga., by a soldier who signed his letters alternately as Gordon [Gordon O. Galbreath] and Bill [G.B. Galbreath] relating an account of having met Greenville, S.C., native Lee Howard at a USO dance and expressing his love for her. Letter dated 17 Aug. 1944 identified the writer as a graduate of a Houston, Texas, high school and former student of engineering at Texas A & M. Also includes candid photographs of World War II soldier Benjamin Gaston Cole, one of which features 48 images one sheet (29 x 22 cm); and letter, 16 June 200[4], from Lee Watson to Allen Stokes, South Caroliniana Library, transmitting the items and giving details of the occasion on which she met Galbreath at a dance for soldiers, "he had returned from service abroad ..." and the significance of the photographs of B.G. Cole.
