Letters to his uncle Sgt. L. Otis Colburn and Barton W. Underwood both serving in the 51st Illinois. Letters first written as a patient then as hospital staff, discuss the war news, news friends and relatives at home and serving in the war, progress of the war, and his work in the hospital. Last letter discusses the army activities at the end of the war and the death of Lincoln.
