This collection is arranged in ten series. The first of these series is the Department Records which contains department correspondence, department committees, university correspondence, and department director files. The second series is the Faculty Files of the department. These are the personnel files of faculty members, faculty meeting minutes, and faculty correspondence. The third series has class notes and materials for classes offered in the Library Sciences program while the fourth series, GRADALIS, holds the records of the GRADALIS organization which was the library science student organization. The fifth series is the Department Reports which includes the annual reports of the department and committee reports comparing the program to other national programs and making suggestions for improvement. The sixth series contains the correspondence, publishing information, and professional of Maurice Marchant, a professor in the program and one of the directors. Dorothy McDonald Shields is the focus of the seventh series which includes her committee work, workshop presentations, publishing information, and professional correspondence. The eighth series contains the records of a director of the library and information sciences program, Nathan M. Smith. This series includes professional correspondence and committee activities. The records of the special events hosted by the department are contained in the ninth series. Such events include workshops, retirements, and the 25th Anniversary of the program. The tenth and final series contains audio-visual materials such as filmstrips, records, and posters that were included in the department's library.
