In addition to detailed descriptions of the exhibits Reeve also describes travel arrangements, meetings with family members, purchases made, the weather, bouts with illness, a church service, etc.

The World's Columbian Exposition, also known as the Chicago World’s Fair, was organized in celebration of the 400th anniversary of Christopher Columbus’s landing in America.
