Detroit's oldest charitable organization, founded in 1857 as the Ladies Industrial School Association to educate and care for the poor children of Detroit. Its Neighborhood School opened in 1913 with a nursery, kindergarten and social center for boys and girls. Starting in 1936 the school began to lease property from the Greyhound Bus Company.
