The papers in this collection range from 1965 to 2003. The first four series document Wellington Webb's early professional career through his years as the Mayor of City and County of Denver in Colorado. The bulk of the material concentrates on Webb's twelve years as the Mayor of Denver. Each of these series has been organized into the following sub-series when applicable: administrative/office, awards, budget, city planning and business development, city departments and agencies, conferences, correspondence, Denver International Airport (DIA)/Stapleton, elections/campaign, ephemera, events, legislative issues, publications, speeches, transportation and travel. Wellington E. Webb (born February 17, 1941) is an American politician. A member of the Democratic Party, he notably served as the 42nd Mayor of Denver, Colorado, the first African American to hold the position, from 1991 to 2003. Born in Chicago, Illinois, his family relocated to Denver, Colorado in 1954, where the imposing six-foot, five-inch youth became active in sports and graduated from Manual High School.
