Alson D. Van Wagner was born October 11, 1915. In 1924, his family joined Clinton Corners Monthly Meeting, and in 1952 he married Irene Hoskins (1914-2002), the daughter of a Quaker minister. A graduate of the Oakwood School and Earlham College, he operated a poultry business on the family farm in Dutchess County, N.Y.
