Contain materials primarily relating to the management by Robert Carter ([1728-1804] of "Nomini Hall," Westmoreland County, Va.) of his numerous Virginia estates. Includes account books, 1773-1774, 1784-1787, and 1785-1792, concerning his estates in Frederick, Prince William, Richmond, and Westmoreland counties, Va.; land books, 1789 and 1802, regarding land in Fairfax, Frederick, Loudoun, Richmond, and Westmoreland counties, Va; and a record of valuation and division, 1815, of Robert Carter's land in Fairfax, Frederick, Loudoun, Northumberland, Prince William, Richmond, and Westmoreland counties, Va. Also, include letterbooks kept in Williamsburg, Va., 1760-1761 (containing letters of Robert Carter to merchants regarding the shipment of tobacco) and 1770-1773 (containing letters concerning the estate of his brother-in-law Benjamin Tasker [1721-1760], the death of Lord Botetourt [1718?-1770], and operations of the Baltimore Iron Works, Baltimore, Md.).
