The collection consists of two letters from Judith Viorst to Louis Untermeyer. The first letter, typewritten and signed, is dated 14 Sept. 1968, and concerns a Viorst poem to be included in the poetry of love anthology; the second letter, handwritten, is undated but from the same period, and extends her gratitude for a copy of the book and her compliments on its success.

Judith Viorst was born in Newark, New Jersey in 1931. She received her B.A. from Rutgers University and has worked as a journalist, poet, and writer of books for adults and children. Many of her children's books present a humorous view of families based on her own family life.
