The Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1930 as a volunteer group performing at Shortridge High School. The Indiana State Symphony Society was founded in 1931, and reorganized in 1937 to support a major professional orchestra. Charles Latham, the son of one founder, prepared a booklet to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the society.
