Typed transcripts of letters written by John Larrabee. Two letters sent from Garnavillo, Iowa (dated August 12, 1849, and September 12, 1849) are addressed to "Ladies and Gentlemen", most likely members of the Windham Reading Society. A third letter, sent from Windham, Connecticut (dated May 18, 1852) is addressed to "Father" and discusses John's imminent marriage.

John Larrabee (brother of Iowa's 12th governor, William Larrabee) moved to Iowa from Connecticut in 1849. He returned to Connecticut where he married Ardelia Burnham. The couple returned to Iowa in 1852 where John died in September of that year of dysentery. From the description of Letters, 1849 : Garnavillo, Iowa, to Windham Reading Society, Windham, Conn.
