Letter, Jan. 10, 1839 from Vandalia, to Col. N. Buckmaster in Alton, Illinois telling him of the new judicial circuits, state business matters and elections in the general assembly. Letter to Hon. William Martin in Alton, Feb. 2, 1850 from Washington re: claim for service in the Mexican War. Written on the back of a letter from John S. Gallaher, 3rd Auditor, in response to Smith's inquiry re: proper steps for making claim.
