Club license & contest record, 1929-1939.

Record group 79-38 consists of records of club license and contests, from the Michigan State Athletic Board of Control for the years 1929-1939. The Michigan State Athletic Board of Control was created by Public Act 205 of 1939, and was to consist of five members appointed by the governor for a term of four years. The Board was given direction, management, control of, and jurisdiction over all boxing events, sparring matches, wrestling contests, and exhibitions conducted, held, or given within the state by any person, club, corporation, or association. All such activities had to be licensed by the Board and the fees charged for events were based on populations of the districts in which they were held. The records in this volume reveal the contests that were held in Michigan between 1929-39, offering the name and address of the sponsor, attendance, amount of fee paid and date.
