Joseph Jenkins papers, 1819-1845.

Papers of Joseph Jenkins of Boston, Mass., 1819-45, pertaining to his successful lawsuit against Charles H. Eldredge for compensation on properties located in Boston, 1843-45. Papers include depositions, letters to his attorney Rufus Choate, a manuscript copy of Justice Joseph Story's ruling in the case, and the published account of the case entitled, "The Case of Joseph Jenkins Versus Charles H. Eldredge, Et Al., in Equity In the Circuit Court of the United States." Also includes a commission pertaining to Jenkins' military service as Lt. Col. of the 3rd Regiment of the Massachusetts Militia, 1822; a letter from collector Benjamin Chew to Treasury Secretary William Crawford, pertaining to Jenkins' plans to build a new Custom House in New Orleans, Louisiana, 1819; and a report to Governor Edward Everett, Jan. 1838, pertaining to Jenkins' plans to enlarge the Worcester State Hospital for the Insane.
