Typescript diary of Herrick Forbes written while serving with the 1st Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry Regiment, Company I. Forbes enlisted in September of 1861 and the diary commences on 1 January 1862. In it Forbes describes camp life, weather, and the battles in which he was involved. He was wounded in the Battle of Perryville in October of 1862 and was honorably discharged in March of the following year. A biographical sketch is also included.
