Mabel Esther Borden served in France with the U.S. Army Nurse Corps during World War I. A resident of Sheffield, Pennsylvania, Borden reported for duty at Camp Dix, New Jersey, in July 1918, and worked in hospitals in Angers and Vannes between November 1918 and June 1919, returning to the United States later in June.
