Lloyd J. Reynolds papers, 1922-1986. 1922-1986.

Collection consists of correspondence, mostly to Reynolds, and all his home office papers. Included are his unpublished manuscripts and published articles, publicity clippings, photographs, lettering jobs, printed lettering guides, and articles and calligraphic pieces from students and friends. His scribble books and early bookplates are also present, while his library of calligraphy titles and related graphic design books is maintained together in Special Collections and is entirely cataloged.

Lloyd J. Reynolds was born in 1902. He was a professor of art at Reed College, Portland, Oregon, and a member of the faculty there from 1929 to his retirement in 1969. Hired as an instructor in English and creative writing, then art history, he taught a graphic arts workshop and co-founded the Champoeg Press at the college, studied calligraphy on his own, corresponded with the great calligraphers of the day, and became a well-known and very popular teacher of calligraphy (1949 on) and his broad ...
